Paris-bound reserve G Sathiyan Gnanasekaran talks about his Olympic medal hopes & avoiding regrets

With six Commonwealth medals and Arjuna Award winner, Paris-bound reserve G. Sathiyan Gnanasekaran discusses India's table tennis team preparations for Olympic medals.

G Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, who is gearing up for the Paris Olympics 2024. Although he has not been able to qualify for the main table tennis team, but he is going as a reserve. The Arjuna Award winner looks all set to excel in the upcoming event. It is the first time India’s men’s and women’s table tennis teams are taking part in team events at the Paris Olympics.

With six Commonwealth medals, Gnanasekaran is one of India’s most distinguished table tennis players. At 31 years old, he has received various awards and recognition and is now looking to add one more prestigious medal to his cabinet. Recently, he opened up about his Paris 2024 journey. Gnanasekaran shared his insights on how well he is preparing to do at this upcoming global event.

‘I am sure we will be going in as a team and doing our best’

Gnanasekaran, who missed the main squad by a very slim margin, said, ‘Definitely, Paris is still the goal. We have been training together as a team, preparing as if I will be playing; that is very critical. You get an opportunity and are not prepared. I don’t want to face that situation. We are all fully prepared and in good shape. I played well in the last three tournaments. I am sure we will be going in as a team and doing our best.’ (Told to Sportskeeda)

It will be interesting to see how well he performs if he gets a chance at this global event since India is desperately looking to create something special at the table tennis event and win an Olympic medal.
