Australian runner Jessica Hull breaks the women’s 2000m world record ahead of Paris Olympics

The Monaco Diamond League concluded on July 12th, 2024.

Australian runner Jessica Hull breaks the world record before the Paris Olympics. She set a world record in the women’s 2,000m world at the Diamond League meeting in Monaco on Friday. Clocking a blistering 5:19.70, Hull finished the race nearly two seconds off the previous mark set by Francine Niyonsaba of Burundi in 2021.

“It was an incredible feeling,” Hull said after her historic run. “Being alone on the last lap with everyone cheering me on, I just kept my eyes on those lights, hoping they wouldn’t catch me.”

Later Hull said, “There will surely be others who can run this fast, but for now, I have my place.”

Algerian runner breaks the 800m record

The Monaco Diamond League also saw history made in the men’s events. Algerian runner Djamel Sedjati shattered the Diamond League record in the 800m, clocking an impressive 1:41.46. This time not only secured him the win but also included his name to the third-fastest position on the 800m all-time list.
