Former captain of the Indian cricket team Sourav Ganguly was revealed as the team’s owner for the upcoming Indian Racing Festival 2024, which is scheduled for August and September of this year.
Eight teams to vie for ultimate glory in two events
The Kolkata Royal Tigers, making their debut, will be joined by seven other teams from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Kochi, and Ahmedabad at the event.
The Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4IC) and the Indian Racing League (IRL) will be the two primary championships held during the festival.
Dada follows long-standing passion
Expressing his excitement about the new venture, Ganguly said, “I am truly excited to embark on this journey with the Kolkata team in the Indian Racing Festival.
“Motorsports has always been a passion of mine and together with the Kolkata Royal Tigers, we aim to build a strong legacy in the Indian Racing Festival and inspire a new generation of motorsport enthusiasts,” Ganguly added.
It is not new for cricketers to acquire stakes in franchise tournaments of other sports. Recently, veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin invested in American Gambits, a team that will play in the Global Chess League’s second season.
