Wahab Riaz breaks silence after PCB sacking: ‘No blame game, but I have lot to say’

The sacking of Riaz and Razzaq is just the first step in the PCB's promised changes. With a new selection committee potentially taking shape, Pakistan cricket fans are left waiting to see how these changes will impact the team's future performance.

Former Pakistan Cricket Team pacer Wahab Riaz has spoken out after being sacked from the national team’s selection committee. The move follows Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2024, where they failed to progress beyond the group stage.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup woes

Pakistan’s early exit from the World Cup, after defeats to the USA and India, prompted a strong reaction from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had promised a “surgery” on the team in the aftermath of the tournament. This action resulted in the sacking of Riaz and his fellow selector, Abdul Razzaq.

Wahab Riaz Responds: No Blaming

Taking to social media, Wahab Riaz acknowledged the public’s desire for answers. He stated that while he has a lot to say about his dismissal, he doesn’t want to contribute to a “blame game” surrounding the team’s performance.

“There is a lot I can say but I don’t want to be part of the blame games,” the caption of Riaz’s post read.

Restructuring PCB Selection Committee

According to ESPNCricinfo reports, the PCB is considering a major overhaul of the selection process. This could include the reappointment of a chief selector position, a role previously held by Riaz but removed earlier this year. The current committee has no designated leader.

Uncertain Future for Pakistan Cricket Team

The sacking of Riaz and Razzaq is just the first step in the PCB’s promised changes. With a new selection committee potentially taking shape, Pakistan cricket fans are left waiting to see how these changes will impact the team’s future performance.
