Sri Lankan cricket was marred with controversy when a publication published a report alleging some of the players of the national team were involved in a drinking session the night before their T20 World Cup game against South Africa. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board on Tuesday issued a statement denying all allegations and sought a ‘Right of Reply’ from the publication.
Alcohol party before crucial T20 World Cup game?
A local Sri Lankan daily in their report on July 7th claimed that five players of the national team were involved in a drinking incident at the team hotel. The report further claimed that a newly-appointed Assistant Coach and a leading Player Manager was also present at the scene.
SLC vehemently denies allegation
However, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board published a statement on Tuesday refuting all claims of the report. The SLC also demanded a ‘Right of Reply’ to ‘rectify the damage caused to Sri Lankan Cricket’.

“SLC categorically and strongly refutes the contents of the article and confirms that no such incidents, as described, have occurred. Therefore, SLC states unequivocally that the news report is entirely false, fabricated, and baseless. We vehemently believe that such false reporting unfairly damages the reputation of Sri Lanka Cricket, its officials, and the players,” the statement read.
“In light of the said false allegations, Sri Lanka Cricket has requested that the respective newspaper publish a ‘Right of Reply’ to address and rectify the damage caused to Sri Lanka Cricket,” the statement added.
