Gautam Gambhir is expected to take over as the next leader, according to multiple media reports, but the former cricket player has remained silent on the matter. Prior to the official announcement by the BCCI, Gambhir was reportedly present in Eden Gardens to shoot a farewell video from the Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday in Kolkata.

Gautam Gambhir bids goodbye to KKR fans?

According to TimesNow, Gambhir, the captain of the KKR team that has won two IPLs, went to the Eden Garden on Friday to record a video saying goodbye to the team and the supporters.

It has been revealed that Gambhir’s journey with KKR will be featured in the video. An official from the Cricket Association of Bengal was also cited in the report, verifying the former India opener’s attendance at Eden Gardens on July 5.

“It was a low-key affair, but Gambhir wanted to bid goodbye to his fans with a message and that is why they shot a video at the Eden,” the official told the news channel in case of anonymity.

Gambhir and KKR: A deep-rooted love story

Gambhir has a close relationship with Eden Gardens and KKR. In 2012 and 2014, he became the first captain to lead the team to consecutive IPL titles. In 2024, he made a comeback to the franchise as a mentor, motivating the team to win the trophy three times under Shreyas Iyer’s guidance.
