India’s participation in Champions Trophy 2025 ‘uncertain’: Government to take call on Pakistan Tour

With the Champions Trophy just around the corner, all eyes are on the Indian government and the ICC to see if a resolution can be reached, allowing fans to witness this high-octane clash between cricketing giants.

The 2025 Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9 next year, has cast a shadow of uncertainty over the participation of the Indian cricket team. While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already proposed the official schedule, with the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash set for Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on March 1, the final call on India’s travel rests with the central government.

Security Concerns for India Cricket Team

Citing security concerns, the PCB has proposed that all of India’s group-stage matches be played in Lahore. However, this hasn’t quelled the bigger question: will India even travel to Pakistan for the tournament?

Reports suggest that India’s participation is unlikely. A similar situation arose last year when Pakistan was set to host the Asia Cup. The Indian government, citing political tensions, did not grant permission for the team to travel to Pakistan, leading to a venue change for India’s matches.

We haven’t discussed anything about Champions Trophy but I think it’s unlikely that will travel to Pakistan a final call will be taken by the government on travel to Pakistan,” the source told Sports Tak.

Champions Trophy: Hybrid Model a possibility?

The possibility of a “hybrid model” has been raised, where India’s matches could be held at a neutral venue. However, a decision on this will likely be taken during the next ICC board meeting in Sri Lanka.

Strained relations impact India-Pakistan cricketing ties

The long-standing political tensions between India and Pakistan have significantly impacted bilateral cricket series between the two nations. The last time they played a full series was way back in 2012-13, when Pakistan toured India for a multi-format series.

With the Champions Trophy just around the corner, all eyes are on the Indian government and the ICC to see if a resolution can be reached, allowing fans to witness this high-octane clash between cricketing giants.
