Top Indian cricketers who might miss 2028 Summer Olympics

The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja have already announced their retirement from T20 format.

Cricket will return to the 2028 Summer Olympics for the first time since 1900. Cricket’s inclusion at the Los Angeles Olympics follows a growing trend of the sport making an appearance at different multi-sport events. Speaking about the favourites to clinch the gold medal at the grand event, team India will certainly be up there.

With the event to be played in a T20 format, there might be some top Indian cricketers who are likely to miss the Cricket in Olympics 2028 event.

Cricket in Olympics 2028

In his recent conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, team India head coach, Rahul Dravid said that it’s a proud thing for cricket to be added to the Olympics. Dravid also joked about including ‘young Rohit and Virat’ for the 2028 Olympics squad.

The head coach’s remarks made cricketers and PM Modi laugh as both Rohit and Virat announced their retirement from T20Is last week. Not only these two veterans, but the senior all-rounder is also set to miss the event after announcing his retirement alongside Kohli and Rohit.

Apart from the above-mentioned names, the likes of KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami might also miss the grand event. In 2028, Shami will turn 37, while Rahul will be 36 years old. Apart from that, both of them last represented India in T20 format back in 2022, which indicates that the duo is not in the team’s future plans as far as the 20-over format is concerned.
