The Copa America has now entered into the knockout phase. But ahead of the tournament, there are now some special rules of the tournament. All the knockout matches save the Finals will head directly to the penalties incase the match ends in a draw after the stipulated 90 minutes.
What are the rules?
As per the rules in Copa America 2024, all the knockout matches won’t have any extra time. Should any game end in a tie, then the match will directly proceed to the penalties, where the winner be decided.
This rule will be applied to all the quarter finals, semi finals and third placed match. But this won’t be the case in the finals of Copa America.
In the finals, the normal rules will be allowed. Should the final end in a tie after 90 minutes of the game, then extra time of 30 minutes of the game will be played. Each half of the extra time will be of 15 minutes each with a short break. Furthermore, there is no scope of golden goal, i.e the game won’t stop if a team scores in extra time.
Should the game remain a draw, then it will proceed to the penalties.
