Pakistan’s star cricketers Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan might miss out on Canada’s upcoming Global T20 (GT20) League. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is holding back on issuing them a NOC (permission to play in a foreign league).
Pakistan performed poorly in the ICC T20 World Cup, which took place in the West Indies and the USA. The team suffered consecutive defeats against the USA and India, resulting in its elimination from the group stage and failure to qualify for the Super-8 stage.
Previously, Saib Ayub and Azam Khan denied the NOC by PCB. Both were part of the Guyana Warriors in the CPL 2024, but will be unable to participate.
PCB seeks confirmation from the ICC
While the players requested permission to join, the PCB is currently seeking clarification from the International Cricket Council (ICC) about the official status of the Global T20. This delay means a final decision on their participation hinges on the ICC’s response.
7 Pakistan players chosen in various teams
Seven Pakistani cricketers, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi, Asif Ali, Mohammad Amir, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Mohammad Nawaz, are the part of various teams for the Global T20 Canada.
Babar Azam, Asif Ali, Mohammad Amir, and Rizwan will play for the Vancouver Knights. Shaheen and Nawaz will be with the Toronto Nationals. Iftikhar Ahmed will join the Bangla Tigers Mississauga.
