Six players from India, the team that won the title, were included in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) best team from the recently finished T20 World Cup. The team of the competition, featuring several stars, is led by Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
Indians galore in ICC team
Alongside Rohit, the other Indians to feature in the ICC Team of the Tournament are Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.
Rohit’s campaign made him an automatic choice. He scored 257 runs at a strike rate of 156 during the tournament. His innings against Australia and England in back-to-back games were a major factor in India reaching their third T20 World Cup final.

Afghans have next biggest representation
Apart from the Indians, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who opened for Afghanistan, found himself in the team of the year. He was the tournament’s top run scorer with 281 runs. Gurbaz’s partnership with Ibrahim Zadran was crucial to Afghanistan’s progress to the semi-finals. The cornerstones of the middle-order are Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and West Indies star Nicholas Pooran.
Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel make up the other middle-order positions in the team.

The team’s spin-bowling all-rounder, Axar, was followed by Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan, who took 14 wickets during the tournament. Then came the pace trio of Arshdeep Singh, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Jasprit Bumrah, who was named player of the tournament.
South African quick Anrich Nortje, who finished with 15 wickets in the tournament, was named the 12th man.
