PM Modi dials to congratulate Team India on T20 WC glory, lauds Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

India’s long wait for an ICC trophy finally ended with a spectacular win in the T20 World Cup, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi made sure to personally congratulate the team. A day after the victory, PM Modi reached out to the Men in Blue, praising their remarkable performance.

Celebratory call from PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Modi spoke with the Indian Cricket Team over the phone, expressing his admiration for their efforts. According to officials quoted by PTI, Modi congratulated Rohit Sharma for his outstanding captaincy and lauded his impressive T20 career.

Virat Kohli received special mention for his pivotal innings in the final and his enduring contribution to Indian cricket.

The Prime Minister also appreciated the critical roles played by other team members. He praised Hardik Pandya for his crucial final over and Suryakumar Yadav for his incredible catch. Jasprit Bumrah’s vital contributions did not go unnoticed either.

Additionally, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to coach Rahul Dravid for his significant input in guiding the team.

On Saturday, before his phone call, PM Modi had already celebrated the team’s success on social media. He posted on X, saying, “CHAMPIONS! Our team brings the T20 World Cup home in STYLE! We are proud of the Indian Cricket Team. This match was HISTORIC.”

The T20 World Cup final was nothing short of thrilling, with India clinching victory in a nail-biting finish. The match not only marked India’s triumph but also the T20I swansong for veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Towards the end of the match, the pressure was immense on Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh. Hardik’s crafty slower ball to dismiss Heinrich Klassen, which conceded just four runs, shifted the momentum in India’s favour.

With 19 runs needed from the final two overs, Arshdeep Singh bowled brilliantly, giving away only four runs. Suryakumar Yadav’s spectacular catch under pressure was another highlight before Hardik Pandya sealed the game, securing India’s historic win.
