Thank you, King Kohli: Emotional fans wish Virat Kohli as India star batter announces retirement from T20Is

Kohli made his T20 debut in June 2010 and has played in 125 T20Is, scoring 4188 runs, including one century and 38 half-centuries

Despite the immense joy, fans worldwide were left heartbroken and wanting more Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game. The Men in Blue defied all the odds to end their 11-year trophy drought with a seven-run victory against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024.

“This was my last T20 World Cup, this is exactly what we wanted to achieve,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation on Saturday. “One day you feel like you can’t get a run and this happens, God is great. Just the occasion, now or never kind of situation. This was my last T20 game playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup.” said Virat Kohli following the nail-biting game.

Virat Kohli was named Player of the Match for his 59-ball 76 in the final T20I, which helped India win their second World T20 championship. Kohli made his T20 debut in June 2010 and has played in 125 T20Is, scoring 4188 runs, including one century and 38 half-centuries. He ended second in terms of T20I runs, trailing only Rohit Sharma. As he bid farewell to his T20 career, the thankful fans showered him with affection and left wanting more.
