Shubman Gill, the talented Indian opener, might not be in the main squad or reserves (not anymore) for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup, but that’s not stopping him from gearing up for a different challenge. The flamboyant batter is making himself ready for the upcoming Zimbabwe series. Earlier this week, Gill was named the Indian captain to lead a fresh squad, that predominantly features young IPL 2024 stars.
Watch Shubman Gill train hard in USA
The 24-year-old’s dedication is evident in recent sightings. While in the USA, Gill was spotted undergoing a rigorous running session, showcasing his commitment to peak fitness for the upcoming series. Interestingly, the location of his training appears to be an American stadium, hinting at his focus on utilizing available resources to stay sharp. While currently in the USA, glimpses of Gill taking in a Copa America match between Brazil and Costa Rica also emerged.
When will Gill leave for Zimbabwe?
The Indian team will depart for Zimbabwe on July 1. The squad will assemble in Mumbai after finishing their training camp. Captain Shubman Gill, still abroad, will join them directly in Zimbabwe later. Four other players in Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, and Khaleel Ahmed will also join late as they are currently with the Men in Blue for the World Cup Finals. They’ll head to Harare after India’s World Cup campaign concludes.
Gill’s leadership potential has been recognized for some time now, despite his maiden stint as Gujarat Titans (GT) captain not going in an ideal way. Leading India in the Zimbabwe series would be a valuable opportunity for him to gain experience and showcase his captaincy skills on the international stage.
