PCB announces overhaul of domestic cricket structure following T20 World Cup exit

By investing in the foundation, the board hopes to cultivate a stronger pipeline of talented players who can consistently compete at the international level and bring glory to Pakistan cricket.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has unveiled a comprehensive plan to revitalize the country’s domestic cricket scene after ICC T20 World Cup exit. These significant reforms aim to strengthen the overall system, improve coaching standards, and bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket.

PCB building stronger foundation

Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the need for a robust domestic structure. Revised contracts and regular tournaments across all formats – Tests, ODIs, and T20s – will be implemented.

This will provide players with a high-quality competitive environment to refine their skills and showcase their talent.

Promoting domestic excellence

The PCB has also pledged to actively promote domestic cricket “at all levels,” according to Mohsin Naqvi. This includes securing the services of top-tier coaches who can nurture the next generation of cricketing stars.

Fairness and meritocracy in Pakistan Cricket

Naqvi made it clear that player selection for the Pakistan cricket team will prioritize performance, fitness, and merit. He assured fans that there will be “no compromises” on these criteria, ensuring a fair and competitive environment for all players.

PCB bridging gap

A key goal of the overhaul is to seamlessly connect domestic and international cricket. Mohsin Naqvi believes a strong domestic circuit will “reduce the gap” between them. Players will need to consistently perform and demonstrate peak fitness in domestic tournaments to earn a place in the national team.

Nurturing future stars

Unearthing and developing young talent is now an “emergency priority” for the PCB, according to Naqvi. Proactive measures will be taken to discover promising young cricketers who can potentially represent Pakistan on the world stage.
