BCCI to review new domestic cricket structure with inputs from Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Ajit Agarkar

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced plans to review the newly implemented domestic cricket structure for the upcoming season. This structure, proposed by NCA Head VVS Laxman, former coach Rahul Dravid, BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar and others incorporates several changes, including a break between the Ranji Trophy league and knockout stages, extended gaps between matches in the second phase of the Ranji Trophy, and the removal of the toss in the Under-23 CK Nayudu Trophy.

BCCI seek feedback

The BCCI representatives met with state associations in Mumbai on Monday to discuss the new structure. This review will be conducted based on the feedback received from these key stakeholders in Indian cricket.

Changes in pipeline for India domestic cricket

The upcoming season, kicking off on September 5th with the Duleep Trophy in Andhra Pradesh, will see a revamped schedule. Here’s a glimpse of the key changes:

  • A two-phased Ranji Trophy with a break between the league and knockout stages.
  • Extended rest periods between matches in the Ranji Trophy’s second phase.
  • Removal of the toss in the Under-23 CK Nayudu Trophy.

BCCI focused on infrastructure

The BCCI also provided updates on infrastructural advancements. State units were informed about the near completion of the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and indoor academies in North-Eastern states, Patna, and Jammu & Kashmir.

Appreciation for state associations: Jay Shah

BCCI secretary Jay Shah expressed his appreciation for the state associations’ efforts in successfully managing a jam-packed season that included the World Cup, IPL, WPL, bilateral series, and the entire domestic calendar.

He also highlighted the BCCI’s commitment to providing improved facilities for player development.
