Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy has raised eyebrows after posting cryptic messages on his Instagram following his exclusion from the recently announced squad for the Zimbabwe series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had named a 15-member team earlier today, which saw a number of impressive performers from IPL 2024 rewarded for their exploits.
Several IPL performers, not Chakravarthy
Young guns including Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Nitish Reddy, and Tushar Deshpande all found themselves selected after eye-catching seasons in the lucrative tournament. Notably absent from the squad, however, was Chakravarthy, who had his best IPL season to date. The spinner scalped a staggering 21 wickets at an impressive strike rate of 14.29, the most by any spinner and the second-highest overall in the entire tournament.
What did Varun Chakravarthy post?
These numbers have left many scratching their heads as to why Chakravarthy was overlooked by the selectors. The snub seems to have gotten under the cricketer’s skin, with him taking to his Instagram stories to express his disappointment in a rather cryptic manner.
In his first story, Chakravarthy wrote “I wish I had a paid PR agency,” hinting at a perceived lack of recognition for his performances. He followed this up with another message stating, “God, grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change,” suggesting a sense of resignation over his exclusion.
