USA’s loss is Afghanistan’s gain! Did co-hosts squander an opportunity by not signing Champion Dwayne Bravo?

USA Cricket passed on Dwayne Bravo's offer, but the Afghanistan Cricket Board successfully signed him as a bowling consultant for the ongoing tournament.

In what has come as a breaking development, West Indies cricket legend Dwayne Bravo offered his services to the USA Cricket team in the lead up to the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. To much of a surprise, the co-hosts rejected the proposal to become the bowling coach made by the undisputed hero of T20 cricket.

Why did USA reject Dwayne Bravo?

According to American journalist Peter Della Penna, Bravo’s offer was rejected by the USA Cricket board due to budgetary constraints. This news comes as a shock considering the impressive performance of the US team in the tournament so far. The team defied expectations by qualifying for the Super 8s stage, even giving strong contenders like India, South Africa a run for their money after breaking Pakistani hearts to kick them out of the group stages.

USA’s loss is Afghanistan’s gain

USA’s rejection proved to be a golden opportunity for Afghanistan. The Afghan Cricket Board capitalized by successfully signing Bravo as a bowling consultant for the tournament. Bravo’s impact was undeniable. Afghanistan recently etched their names in history with a sensational win against Australia in the Super 8s. Bravo’s expertise seems to have significantly bolstered the Afghan bowling attack.

Having said that, Bravo’s vast experience and proven talent could have been a valuable asset for the young USA team as well. It remains to be seen how USA Cricket will address such limitations in the future to compete with established cricket nations.
