France on Monday started their UEFA Euro 2024 campaign with a clinical win 1-0 against Austria. An own goal from Maximilian Wöber in the 38th minute sealed the tie for Les Blues. However, more than the win, France will be left majorly worried by the nose injury to Kylian Mbappe. France coach Didier Deschamps after the match said Mbappe’s nose wasn’t ‘looking good’.
France captain Kylian Mbappe was a livewire on the field as usual. His slick and intelligent movement troubled the Austrians and it was his cross that forced Wöber to turn the cross into his own net. However, a clash with Kevin Danso in the 86th minute spelled doom for Mbappe as he was seen bleeding profusely from his nose and was taken off shortly.
After the match, Deschamps said, “[Kylian] is not doing well. I can’t say more because I’ve had media duties, but his nose is not good. It’s complicated. That’s the black mark from this evening.”

“I’m not going to go into hypothesis but the French team with Kylian will always be stronger with him. If the news doesn’t go along these lines, then we will have to fight without him,” he added.
It remains to be seen if Mbappe can recover in time to appear for the Les Blues in Euro 2024 once again, but the chance are looking bleak at the moment.
