The snickometer came into use in the Belgium vs Slovakia game. The referee went to the pitch side monitor to witness the ball being touched by a player before deeming it to be offside.

The microchip inside the ball was first used in the FIFA World Cup 2022 held in Qatar. The chip can effectively measure motion sensor with an alarming rate of 500 times in a second. After it’s successful usage in the Qatar World Cup, it is now being used in the UEFA Euro 2024.

“We have the best technology available. We are doing this for football. For the image of the game, for the next generation of young players and referees, for the image of football,” said Roberto Rosetti, UEFA’s chief refereeing officer.

The snickometer is also used in Cricket. The high intensity speakers easily catch the minute sound. It is widely used in every format of the game to determine if the ball has touched the bat or the gloves of the player.
