IND vs SA 1st ODI: Smriti Mandhana rescues India out of woods, brings up her sixth ODI ton

Mandhana took some time to settle in in the middle before taking the attack to the opposition. The southpaw hit 10 fours and a six to complete her century.

Indian batter Smriti Mandhana on Sunday slammed a magnificent century against South Africa Women in the IND vs SA 1st ODI. Coming in to open the batting, Mandhana held on to her end and completed her 100 in 116 balls.

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur on Sunday won the toss and elected to bat first at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in the first of the three-match series. India were in a spot of bother after losing five wickets for 99 runs. However, a partnership of 81 runs for the sixth wicket among Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma steadied the ship.

Mandhana took some time to settle in in the middle before taking the attack to the opposition. The southpaw hit 10 fours and a six to complete her century. It was her sixth ODI century.

The opener struck the ball at a strike rate of 86, something that the southpaw will be looking to better towards the end of the innings. Courtesy of her century, India reached 218/6 in 44 overs.

With six overs to go and Mandhana still at the crease, India are expected to reach a respectable total against their South African counterparts.
