When Gautam Gambhir joined KKR as the mentor, not many gave the team chances of a turnaround. Cut to a couple of months later, as soon as the team made it to the playoffs, Gambhir was solely credited for the team’s success. So much so, that he became a likely contender to replace Rahul Dravid as Team India’s head coach.
Gautam Gambhir Could Take Charge Next Week
Now as per a report in Dainik Jagran, the deal between Gautam Gambhir and BCCI is done, and the former is likely to join the team for a duration of three years, starting next week. The report also talks about how Gambhir has made a special request to the board, to bring in his own support staff for the job.
Currently, Vikram Rathour is the batting coach, Paras Mhambrey is the bowling coach, and T Dilip is the fielding coach. In fact, Rathour was brought to the team during Ravi Shastri’s tenure, and hasn’t been changed since then.
And as confirmed by a BCCI source, an agreement has been reached upon the same. The report also suggests that there could be wholesale changes in the complexion of the team, and not just support staff.

Meanwhile, earlier Gambhir had also expressed his interest in coaching the Team India. “I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well. I have not answered this question, although lot of people have asked me. But I have to answer you now.
“It is 140 crore Indians who will help India win the World Cup. If everyone starts praying for us and we start playing and representing them, India will win the World Cup. The most important thing is to be fearless,” said Gambhir.
