New Zealand pacer Tim Southee has been penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching their Code of Conduct during the T20 World Cup match against West Indies.
What did Tim Southee do?
The incident occurred in the 18th over of New Zealand‘s batting innings. Following his dismissal, Tim Southee vented his frustration by damaging a hand sanitizer dispenser on his way back to the pavilion.
Breach of Conduct: Level 1 offence
This act was deemed a violation of Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which prohibits “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
Penalty against Tim Southee
Tim Southee admitted his mistake and accepted the sanction proposed by David Boon, a match referee. As a Level 1 offence, the punishment includes an official reprimand and one demerit point added to his disciplinary record.
This was Southee’s first offence within a 24-month period, so the penalty wasn’t more severe.

Level 1 offences in the ICC Code of Conduct carry a range of penalties. These can range from a simple reprimand to a 50% fine of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
