Stead admits to uncertain future
Stead became New Zealand coach in 2018 and guided them to the 2021 final. He has one year remaining on his contract. Speaking before Afghanistan’s victory over Papua New Guinea, Stead avoided the question of whether he is still the best person to lead the Black Caps. PNG’s loss to the Afghans resulted in New Zealand’s elimination.

“That’s a question you should be asking other people,” the 52-year-old told Radio New Zealand.
“I can look at myself in the mirror and know that the preparation we tried to put in place has been as good as (possible),” he added.
New Zealand’s poor outing demands actions
However, with the team failing to reach the Super Eight stage for the first time since the tournament started in 2007, some heads are likely to roll. It remains to be seen whether Gary Stead will be on that list.
