A wave of panic occurred the Bangladesh camp during their T20 World Cup clash against Netherlands. Opener Tanzid Hasan was left shaken but unhurt after a vicious bouncer from Dutch pacer Vivian Kingma got lodged in the grill of his helmet.
Watch: Ball stuck in Tanzid Hasan’s helmet!
After the Netherlands put Bangladesh to bat first, the early dismissal of captain Najmul Shanto added pressure. However, the aggressive Tanzid looked determined to revive the innings. He started off with a bang, smashing 14 runs off the first four deliveries of Kingma’s third over.
The fifth ball, however, turned into a heart-stopping moment. Kingma unleashed a fiery bouncer that rocketed towards Tanzid’s head. With eyes squeezed shut, Tanzid braced for impact, only to feel the ball come to a sudden halt. The sheer force of the blow had lodged the ball right in the grill of his helmet, leaving everyone stunned.
A determined Tanzid!
Fortunately, the impact appeared to be on the protective grill itself. Tanzid, clearly rattled, removed his helmet with the ball still stuck. Thankfully, a quick check by the physio confirmed no concussion, and Tanzid even displayed remarkable composure by smashing a defiant four off the very next delivery. He went on to score a total of 18 runs in that over, showcasing his fighting spirit. Bangladesh ultimately finished with a great first-innings score of 159/5.
