It looks like the world’s richest league, IPL, has once again become the center of discussion. Former Kiwi pacer Mitchell McClenaghan recently criticized a Pakistan journalist named Imran Siddique, who commented on New Zealand’s poor outing in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. After the Kiwi side lost the must-win game against two-time T20 World Cup champions West Indies.
The journalist wrote on X, ‘This is what happens when you prefer money over national duty. New Zealand had a great chance to prepare themselves for the World Cup 2024 on the Pakistan tour, but their main players chose the IPL, and now they are out of the World Cup’.
Former Kiwi fired back at journalist after ‘absurd’ statement
Mitchell McClenaghan schooled the Pakistan journalist Imran by reminding him that his men in the green side lost against New Zealand’s C side, Ireland, and even the USA, who are not even full member nations. Taking to X, McClenaghan wrote, ‘Very poor take. You lost games to our C side, Ireland, and the USA’.
The New Zealand debacle!
Apart from the criticism, it’s also a fact that the Black Caps have failed to impress in this ongoing T20 World Cup. As a team, they’ve lost two out of four games to date, first against Afghanistan, which was nothing short of a shock as the team was bundled out for a mere 75 runs, affecting their run rate.
Now, they’ve lost another game against the West Indies, placing them on the brink of elimination. It will be interesting to see how the Kiwi side can bounce back and make their way to the Super Eight stage. Although, looking at the standings, it’s almost difficult for the Black Caps to proceed to the advanced stage.
