The Indian Premier League’s (IPL) financial power continues to surge, with the league’s value as a business reaching a staggering $16.4 billion (₹1,35,000 crore) in 2024, a 6.5% increase as per a report by Houlihan Lokey. Interestingly, on-field success doesn’t solely dictate brand value, as evidenced by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) surpassing both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the rankings.
CSK tops the chart, followed by RCB!
While Chennai Super Kings (CSK) maintains its dominance as the IPL’s most valuable franchise with a brand value of $231.0 million (9% growth), RCB takes the unsurprising second place with a valuation of $227.0 million. This comes despite MI boasting five IPL titles and KKR securing their third, including the most recent victory against SRH in the 2024 finals.
KKR, however, emerges as the fastest-growing franchise, witnessing a significant 19.3% rise in brand value compared to 2023. Mumbai Indians, despite their rich history, finds itself ranked fourth at $204.0 million. Their IPL trophy drought since 2021 might be one of the reasons for this.
RCB’s strong fan base, strategic marketing, and association with megastar Virat Kohli likely contribute significantly to its impressive valuation. The rankings continue with Rajasthan Royals at $113 million and Sunrisers Hyderabad at $132 million, showcasing the IPL’s overall financial strength as each franchise holds significant commercial value.
