USA captain Monank Patel talks about ‘Special’ Gujarat connection with Bumrah & Axar

USA captain Monank Patel will be leading his side against India in a T20 World Cup match on Wednesday.

USA captain Monank Patel recently talked about his special connection with India’s Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah. Ahead of the India vs USA T20 World Cup clash, USA captain Monank Patel said that he and Axar Patel came from the same town in Gujarat. Monank also mentioned that he is happy to see Axar and Bumrah doing well for their country.

I have played with Axar and Bumrah in under-19 and under-15 matches. Axar comes from the same town where I am from. It’s a small town, and he has obviously motivated and encouraged a lot of youngsters from there. I’m happy to see them growing and playing good cricket,” said Monank Patel in a conversation with Star Sports.

Who is USA captain Monank Patel?

Patel was born in Anand, Gujarat, in May 1993. Taking up cricket from a young age, he was selected to represent his state in domestic cricket at the U16 and U19 levels. However, after his career began to stagnate, he emigrated to the USA, receiving his green card in 2010 and settling down in New Jersey.

From there, Patel’s career has gone from strength to strength. He has represented the USA multiple times in ODI and T20I cricket. In 2021, he was made skipper of the national team ahead of their qualifying campaign for the T20 World Cup. In the ongoing mega event, Monank is leading his side from the front with USA winning their both matches so far.
