Pakistan assistant coach Azhar Mahmood countered former cricketer Wasim Akram’s claims that skipper Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi were not on talking terms. Akram’s remarks came after the side’s second straight loss at the ongoing T20 World Cup. Speaking to the media, the assistant coach rubbished rumours of differences between the two stars and clarified that side did not lose IND vs PAK match because of any one individual.
All is well between Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi?
“Wasim (Akram) might have said that. But I don’t know, I haven’t seen it. Shaheen and Babar are definitely talking, they are good friends. They are both part of Pakistan team. We have not lost because of anyone, it is our mistake too,” Mahmood said.

Further, the coach claimed that the team management was not hiding any players from press conferences. He stressed on the need for the support staff to explain adequately the reason for the team’s poor performance to the media.
What did Akram say about Babar and Shaheen?
Akram took a dig at Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Afridi for not being on talking terms since the change of captaincy. Afridi was replaced by Babar Azam as the captain of the team before the T20 World Cup. Although Akram did not take any names, it was clear he was talking about the duo.
“There are players who don’t want to talk to each other. This is international cricket, and you play for your country. Make these players sit at home,” he said.
