Show dissent & get fined! ICC send warning after reprimanding Matthew Wade for his act in AUS vs ENG tie

While Matthew Wade has been rebuked for a Level 1 offence by ICC, the southpaw needs to keep his cool in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 games.

Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their T20 World Cup match against England on Saturday.

What did Matthew Wade do in the AUS vs ENG T20 WC clash?

The incident occurred in the 18th over of Australia’s innings. Facing Adil Rashid, Wade played the ball back towards the bowler, expecting it to be called a dead ball. When umpire Nitin Menon didn’t signal a dead ball, Wade voiced his disapproval and argued with the officials. The ICC, in a media statement, confirmed that Wade had breached Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct, which pertains to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match. As a consequence, he has received a demerit point on his disciplinary record, marking his first offense in the past two years.

Wade acknowledged his mistake and accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee Andy Pycroft, avoiding a formal hearing. The charges were brought forth by the officiating team – Nitin Menon, Joel Wilson (on-field umpires), Asif Yaqoob (third umpire), and Jayaraman Madangopal (fourth umpire).

Australia, who currently sit at second spot, will face Namibia for their next fixture in Antigua.
