After USA visa issues, Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane to join T20 World Cup squad in West Indies

Sandeep Lamichhane's return could provide a much-needed boost to their bowling attack.

Nepal cricket team star Sandeep Lamichhane, a figure shrouded in controversy, will be joining his team’s T20 World Cup campaign in the West Indies. This comes after visa complications prevented him from playing in the initial matches held in the United States of America (USA).

Denied visa in US, set for West Indies stint

Sandeep Lamichhane, a talented spin bowler, was initially selected for the World Cup despite facing legal troubles. He was accused of rape in 2022, but the conviction was overturned last month.

However, his attempt to secure a US visa was denied twice, forcing him to miss Nepal’s opening matches.

Second chance in Caribbean for T20 World Cup

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) confirmed Sandeep Lamichhane’s inclusion in a statement on Monday. The 23-year-old expressed his excitement on social media, stating, “I am now joining the national team for the last two matches in the West Indies and looking forward to fulfilling my dreams and the dream of all cricket lovers.”

Controversial figure back in Nepal Cricket Team

Sandeep Lamichhane was once considered Nepal’s cricketing prodigy. However, the rape allegations and subsequent legal battle tarnished his image. While the charges have been dropped, his inclusion in the team remains a contentious topic.
