Pakistan to beat India, qualify for Super 8s? Shoaib Akthar gets over-optimistic

IND vs PAK: In all T20 World Cup matches, Team India has won six matches out of seven played, while Pakistan has won one.

The way Pakistan cricket team played their first match against USA, losing in the super over, not many are giving them a chance to do well in IND vs PAK clash in New York on Sunday. But actually, that could be a blessing in disguise for Babar Azam’s struggling Pakistan. Time-and-again they have showed at ICC events, despite not starting very well in the tournaments, they do find a way to make a comeback, and decimate the oppositions.

T20 World Cup

Former Pakistan speedster and one of the most prominent voices in cricketing circles, Shoaib Akhtar has predicted that the team can make a comeback in the T20 World Cup, and beat India. In a motivational video shared on his social media, Shoaib highlighted how the Pakistani team doesn’t need any motivation to perform in IND vs PAK matches.

“Now the question is whether Pakistan has a chance or not? Pakistan has a chance, trust me! Whenever we are down and out, our World Cup journey has always been like this from the start. We always seemed to be struggling, except for the 1999 World Cup, which we cruised through, though we unfortunately lost in the final.

“But Pakistan can make a comeback from here. India is a tough opponent. Isn’t it enough motivation for you that you are up against the Indians?”

Pakistan Qualification Scenario

Pakistan qualification scenarios straightforward at the moment. They can’t lose to India. Having said that, even if Pakistan manages a win vs India, there can come a situation where they don’t go through. Given it is a pool of five teams, three teams — IND, PAK, and USA can well end at 6 points apiece. To elaborate, if USA beat Pakistan, Canada and Ireland, India beat Canada, Ireland and USA, and Pakistan beat India, Canada and Ireland, then the Men in Green could still go home.

Here, the NRR will come into play, and only the top two teams with best NRR would go through.
