Did Indian fans want to throw Shaheen Afridi in water? Hilarious video before IND vs PAK match surfaces

Lighthearted teasing or a strategic attempt by Indian fans to get Shaheen Afridi out of the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match?

A video doing the rounds on social media captures a hilarious interaction between a group of Indian fans and Pakistani pace bowler Shaheen Afridi. The fans, who traveled 45 hours from Vancouver to New York, were involved in a lighthearted banter with Afridi, who has had past success against the Indian batting lineup. Due to this, did the Indian fans want lob the star left-armer to the water before the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash?

‘Rohit & Virat ko apne ache dost samjho’: Indian fans to Shaeen Afridi

In the video, fans playfully ask Afridi to consider Indian batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as his friends. “Rohit aur Virat ko apne ache dost smjho dost,” said a fan in the video. However, the clip takes a funny turn when a voice is heard saying, “Isko Paani mein fek do” (translation: “Throw him in the water”), referring to a water fountain in the background.

Afridi, to his credit, remained calm and composed throughout the interaction, even as he clicked pictured with all the fans present. While the fan’s comment might be interpreted as going a tad overboard, it was likely meant to be a playful jab in the lead-up to the huge India-Pakistan clash.

While the two neighboring countries only meet in multi-national tournaments, Shaheen boasts a decent record against the Men in Blue. Across both the white-ball formats, Shaheen has taken 10 wickets at a great economy of 6.42 in six innings. Five of his 10 wickets have been Rohit Sharma (3 times) and Virat Kohli (2 times).
