T20 World Cup

Canada first-ever T20 World Cup win

The match, held at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, came down to the final over, with Canada holding their nerve to secure a historic 12-run win.

Previously boasting only one win against a full member nation (Ireland in 2019), Canada dominated in all aspects of the game, adding another layer of drama to the already unpredictable Group A.

Rising to occasion: Canada batting and bowling prowess

Following the footsteps of their southern neighbors, USA, who had surprised Pakistan the previous day, Canada relied on the brilliance of Nicholas Kirton’s 49 runs to reach a competitive total of 137 for 7 wickets in their 20 overs. This score became the highest recorded on this ground in the tournament so far.

The bowling unit then displayed exceptional skill, picking up seven wickets and withstanding a late Irish onslaught to seal the victory. Jeremy Gordon and Dilon Heylinger emerged as the bowling heroes, claiming two wickets each.

Ireland Faltering chase in T20 WC

Ireland’s chase began on a shaky note, with their top order batsmen, including captain Paul Stirling, dismissed cheaply. Frequent wicket losses hampered their momentum, leaving them at a precarious 50-4 at the halfway mark.

A late fightback from George Dockrell (30*) and Mark Adair (34*) offered a glimmer of hope, but their partnership was cut short in the final over. Ireland fell short by 12 runs, leaving their Super 8 qualification hopes hanging in the balance.
