19 years. 94 goals and 151 appearances later, Sunil Chhetri calls end to his international career.

For over a decade, Sunil Chhetri has remained the cornerstone of Indian Football. In a country, dominated by the love of cricket, the Captain, Leader, and Legend has taken the sport to new heights. As he played his final game at the VYBK, emotions ran high. As a teary-eyed Chhetri went around the stadium waving at the fans, wife Sonam Chhetri could not hold back her tears.

Sonam, the daughter of legendary Subrata Bhattacharya, who was the coach of Sunil Chhetri, has been with the captain. Sonam couldn’t hold back her tears as Sunil walked back playing his last ever game. Chhetri’s parents who were also in the stands were left teary-eyed.

Players give captain Sunil Chhetri a guard of honour

A captain, a brother and an inspiration. The players, overflowing with emotions and tears, greeted the Captain for one last time. They stood teary-eyed, giving Chhetri the guard of honour he deserved. Goalkeeper Amrinder Singh came out to give Chhetri a hug who hid his face in his arms.

 In a warm gesture, each one of Kuwait’s players and officials also paid their respects with handshakes and hugs with the Indian skipper. The Indian football community now faced the challenge of finding a new number 9, but Chhetri’s influence and inspiration would undoubtedly continue to guide the team. His last match was not just a game; it was a celebration of a remarkable career.
