A movie on the historic win featuring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev is set to release in theatres on December 24, Friday. It’s almost certain that the the movie will be a blockbuster and mint a lot of money in the coming days, contrastingly enough from the lowly salary which the team got back in 1983. Kapil Dev’s team got Rs 200 per day for three days as daily allowance and a match fee of Rs 1500 taking the payment to Rs 2100 for each player. The information is from a Twitter post shared by sports journalist Makrand Waingankar in July 2019.

In fact, veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar was approached by the BCCI for a concert which helped the board raise funds to award the members of the World Cup-winning team. All players were rewarded Rs 1 lakh post the show.

How much do the Indian cricketers earn now? 

  • A player gets Rs 15 lakh for a Test match
  • Indian cricketers get Rs 6 lakh for featuring in an ODI match
  • Rs 3 lakh for playing a T20I match
  • Centrally contracted players in A+ category get Rs 7 crore per year
  • Players in Grade A and B gets Rs 5 and Rs 3 crore respectively
  • Players in Grade C gets Rs 1 crore in a year
  • A batsman gets Rs 7 lakh apart from the match fee if he scores a double hundred
  • A five-wicket-haul and a Test hundred is rewarded with Rs 5 lakh each

Players these days also get lucrative IPL deals apart from the match fee and salaries from the BCCI. Someone like Virat Kohli has got a staggering amount of Rs 17 crore for a season from his franchise. The ads and sponsorships further increases the balance of current crop of star cricketers.

How much royalty fee did the ‘original stars’ of 1983 World Cup charge for the movie? 

According to reports Kapil Dev’s team has been given a total of Rs 15 crore for the movie Out of the amount, Kapil Dev has reportedly taken Rs 5 crore and the remaining Rs 10 crore has been divided between the remaining 13 players.
