With the IPL 2024 Auction scheduled to take place in a month, every fan wants to know about the auction and the player retention process. With just about four months left for the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League, players will go under the hammer in the mini-auction in December 2023. So, here are 5 things you need to know about the IPL 2024 Auction and the player retention process:
- IPL 2024 Auction Date: While the date for the auction isn’t confirmed, as per Cricbuzz, the auction will take place on December 19.
- IPL 2024 Auction Venue: In the same report mentioned above, the BCCI has given the green light to host the IPL auction outside of India for the first time. While it is not yet confirmed, the auction is supposed to take place at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
- IPL 2024 Player Retention Window: The deadline for player retention and release was set for November 15 by the BCCI. However, since then, the window for retention and release has been extended to November 26, a week after the ODI World Cup 2023 ends.
- Increase in IPL 2024 Auction Purse: The salary purse for the upcoming IPL auction has been increased. While the increment is not for a substantial account, the purse has been increased by INR 5 crore. Compared to last season’s INR 95 crore, this season, teams will have an INR 100 crore spending amount at the auction.
- Remaining Purse for Each Team: The ten teams have a varied amount left in their purse. While the Lucknow Super Giants have just INR 13.9 crore left, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have INR 34 crore left.
