It should be noted that Reliance-backed Viacom18 shelled out Rs 20,500 crore to bag IPL Digital Rights for Indian sub-continent.

In another Tweet, Jay Shah added that after the pay equity, the bidding for media rights for Women’s IPL marks another historic mandate. He calls it as the dawn of a new era and also big and decisive step for empowerment of women’s cricket in India. Jay Shah is hopeful that the WIPL will ensure participation of women from all ages.

Chairman, IPL Governing Council, Mr Arun Singh Dhumal said: “It gives me immense pleasure to welcome Viacom18 as our official digital and television broadcaster for women’s IPL. Viacom18 has committed INR 951 crores, which is a per-match value of INR 7.09 crores for the next 5 years (2023-27).

The faith of all our bidders for this process also testifies that they see value in investing in this property which will only be growing with each passing year. Women’s cricket has shown immense growth in the past few years and our own T20 league, it only solidifies our approach towards women’s cricket and the potential it has for growth in India. I would once again like to congratulate Viacom18 and would also like to thank all our bidders for supporting and showing faith in our prospects.”

Women IPL Player Auction:

Five price ranges, from Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh, make up the base price for the first auction prior to the WIPL. The auction’s registration cutoff date is January 26. The reserve values a female cricketer may select are detailed in the “guide notes” for the auction registration system that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given with the state associations.

Uncapped cricketers have two alternatives whereas capped players—those who have represented India or are currently on a central contract—can select one of three basic prices: Rs. 30 lakh, Rs. 40 lakh, or Rs. 50 lakh (Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh).

WIPL Team Auction: BCCI & the women cricketers in India are up for HUGE-WINDFALL in 2023. The board is not only expecting HUGE CONTRACT from the broadcaster but also expecting BIG INTEREST for WIPL franchise tender.

According to a top BCCI official, ‘the upcoming Women IPL League can generate 1000 Crore plus at Auction for each franchise’.

The board official also confirmed to InsideSport that PLAYER salary purse for Women players can be in a range of 40 Crore for each franchise. This means like counterparts, WIPL will make Women Cricketers Millionaires next year.

“It’s a new product but established concept. Check the response we got for INDIA vs Australia series. This clearly shows Women Cricket has huge growth potential. We are sure each franchsie can fetch 1000 Crore plus. Players will be suitably paid and each franchise can have a player purse of 35-40 Crore”, confirmed top BCCI official to InsideSport.

Already interest for acquiring the WIPL franchises is huge. Mohit Burman, who is also chairman of Dabur India Ltd, said that the women’s IPL holds potential. His interest in the tournament could also encourage the others to consider investing.

“We are not sure of the base price. The quantum of money required to acquire a team will be clear once the media rights are in place,” Burman said, adding that selling the media rights first was the right thing to do. “That way, all the bidders can get some visibility on what they’ll get back,” Burman added.

Other than PBKS, Chennai Super Kings have also expressed their interest in purchasing a Women’s IPL team. With five teams up for grabs, CSK have picked up the tender alongside several interested parties. One of the most successful IPL teams, CSK remain keen to be a part of the new WIPL. Several other IPL franchises are also interested in the same.

“We’ve applied to buy the bid document. Now we’ll have to find out about the economics of it. We are interested. If CSK doesn’t have a women’s team, it may not look good. We’d like to promote women’s cricket,” CSK CEO Kashi Viswanathan told TOI.

Team auction likely end of month: Meanwhile, the BCCI/IPL officials say that the sale of teams will be completed by the end of January so that the new franchises have at least one month before the start of the WIPL.

As expected, the Indian Premier League teams will be the frontrunners to own the Women Indian Premier League (WIPL) teams. Not one but at this stage 8 IPL teams have picked tender to own and operate WIPL Franchise. Defending IPL champions Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings all will be bidding for the WIPL Teams.

The remaining two teams, i.e Royal Challengers Bangalore & RPSG owned Lucknow Super Giants are also expected to join the race. The competition won’t end there. Their is a BUMPER interest in ownership of the WIPL Franchise.

According to informed sources in BCCI, so far 15 companies have picked the TENDER DOCUMENT.

“Their is better than expected interest for the ownership of WIPL Team. 15 companies have already picked the tender, we now expect the figure to cross two dozen”, informed a source involved in the tender process.
