Asian Judo Championship 2024: Tulika Mann causes major upset, beats world no.1 Kim Hayun in quarter finals

25-year-old Mann, who had won the Silver Medal in Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, caused a major upset when she took down the medal favourite.

Judoka Tulika Mann on Monday scripted history when she beat defeated Olympic medal favourite, reigning Asiad Champion and World number 1 Kim Hayun of South Korea in the quarterfinals of Asian Judo Championship 2024.

25-year-old Mann, who had won the Silver Medal in Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, caused a major upset when she took down her South Korean opponent.

Who is Tulika Mann?

Multiple gold medalist Tulika Maan, an Indian Judoka, has competed in Senior Nationals in India. The CWG Silver Medallist, Tulia Maan, never showed interest in education and informed her mother that she was not meant for this field of study after passing the class 10 exams.

From then on, Tulika Maan turned her attention to judo and kept winning medals. According to a citation, Tulika Maan informed her mother that she had higher goals for her athletic career and did not want to pursue higher education after completing her tenth grade education.

The 25-year-old Tulika Maan started practicing Judo as a way to kill time, but she started taking it seriously and improving her technique after finding Yashpal Solanki, a good coach, in 2017. As a result, she won numerous accolades for India and defeating the world number 1 now becomes the jewel in her crown.
