West Indies still not out of T20 World Cup, announce Shai Hope & Nicholas Pooran with USA carnage

WI vs USA: In 129-run chase Shai Hope struck at 210, while Nicholas Pooran had a strike-rate of 225.

West Indies’ first Super 8 match against England went downhill for them completely, and many must have not given a chance to sail into the semis. But their nine-wicket win over the co-hosts USA, has only created a few ripples in this T20 World Cup. Now with a NRR of +1.814, they are competing directly with England to make the semis.

Now, why are they prime contenders to sail into the semis, despite a win over the minnows? The reason is simple, the fashion in which they mauled the the opponents, is just terrifying to say the least.

WI vs USA, As it Happened

First Gudakesh Motie (1/14), Roston Chase (3/19), and Andre Russell (3/31) restricted USA to only 128, and then went on to chase the target in 10.5 overs. Opener Shai Hope was devastating with his 39-ball 82, and then Nicholas Pooran chipped in with 12-ball 27. And no wonder, along the way, many records were created.

Records Galore by West Indies

In all West Indies batsmen hit 11 sixes in their innings, that took the T20 World Cup 2024 six tall to 412. This is the highest in a single edition, surpassing 2021’s 405 maximums. Also, Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran ensured that this was one of the quickest 100-plus run chases in T20 WC history. They reached 130 with 55 balls to spare.

This is only second on the list after AUS vs SL match in Cape Town in 2007, where the chase was done with 58 balls remaining.
