Rohit Sharma warns regarding Jasprit Bumrah, says India’s bowling ace needs ‘smart’ management

India's emphatic win showcased Jasprit Bumrah's undeniable value. However, Rohit's comments highlight the team's strategy of adapting their bowling attack based on specific conditions and opponents.

Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliance once again proved pivotal for India’s T20 World Cup campaign, prompting skipper Rohit Sharma to emphasize the need for strategic bowler management. India thrashed Afghanistan in their opening Super 8s match, with Bumrah leading the bowling attack with a stellar performance.

Jasprit Bumrah magic

Conceding a mere seven runs in his four overs, Jasprit Bumrah ripped through the Afghan batting line-up, claiming three crucial wickets.

His crafty change of pace deceived Afghanistan’s star opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz early on, effectively derailing their chase of India’s 181-run total. Later, he removed Najibullah Zadran to firmly put India in control.

Rohit Sharma acknowledges Jasprit Bumrah importance

We all know Bumrah’s class and what he brings to the table,” declared Rohit Sharma, reflecting on India’s continued winning streak.

“It is important for us to use him smartly. He is the one who is ready to take the responsibility .”

Flexible bowling approach for India

India opted for a three-pronged spin attack for the Afghanistan match, replacing seamer Mohammed Siraj with Kuldeep Yadav. Rohit explained this as a strategic decision based on pitch conditions and the opposition.

“We assess the conditions and the team we’re facing, and we’re open to changing things up if needed,” he said. “Three spinners were the right call today, but if the next pitch favors pace, we’ll go with more seamers.”

Lessons learned for Afghanistan

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan conceded the need for his team to adapt to chasing higher scores in the Super 8s stage. “We thought we could chase around 170-180 on this pitch,” he admitted. “But against top teams, we need to be prepared to chase even bigger totals.”
