LSG’s Mayank Yadav could make a comeback during IPL 2024 playoffs, all but out from league matches

A BCCI source has given the latest development on Mayank Yadav, who aggravated his injury against the Mumbai Indians on Tuesday

In what has come as a massive development, pace sensation Mayank Yadav is expected to miss the remaining stages of the ongoing IPL 2024. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler, however, may get fit in time to feature in the play-off stages, given his team qualifies for the knockouts.

As per reports by the Times of India, a BCCI official feels that if everything goes right, Mayank would ‘just be able to’ play in the playoff fixtures. “Mayank (Yadav) has a tear but it is more likely a grade 1 tear. It will be cutting it fine but in case LSG qualifies for the play-offs, he might just be able to play the knock-out game. a BCCI source informed PTI on condition of anonymity. But it is like hoping against hope and right now he is doubtful for the remaining IPL games,” the BCCI source cautioned.

LSG are currently placed third on the points table and a few more consistent games could earn them their third consecutive playoff spot in IPL. The knockout stages of the ongoing tournament will begin from May 21.

Mayank Yadav’s return proved costly

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fans were elated as their tearaway pacer Mayank Yadav made his comeback against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday. This was after the Delhi-born lad missed five successive games. The 21-year wreaked havoc as he took everyone by surprise by consistently racking up speeds near to 155kmph.

However, after enduring a side strain in one of the IPL 2024 league games against the Gujarat Titans (GT), Mayank missed almost three weeks of IPL action. On Tuesday, all eyes were on Mayank as he took field against MI. However, it proved to be a forgettable night for the youngster as he aggravated his previous injury. After bowling 3.1 overs, he walked off the field, leaving LSG fans in a great concern.

Despite injury worries, there’s a bright spot for the young fast bowler. Report suggests he’ll be included in a special fast-bowling contract alongside rising stars like Umran Malik, Vidwath Kaverappa, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Yash Dayal and Akash Deep. This is a major recognition of his talent based on his limited appearances for LSG in IPL 2024. The contract will put him under the watchful eye of the National Cricket Academy’s sports science and medical team, allowing the BCCI to manage his fitness more professionally.
