Ishan Kishan puts ‘Missing in Action’ controversy to rest, talks about social media negativity

Ishan Kishan has done fairly well in this IPL 2024 for Mumbai Indians, having returned with scores of 34, 16, 42, and 69.

If one was to pick one innings from a Mumbai Indians batsman this year, that is worth remembering for a long time, it has to be Ishan Kishan’s 69 from 34 balls vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday. Ishan’s blitzkrieg ensured that MI achieved the mammoth 197-run target in only 14.3 overs, and seven wickets to spare. Moreover, the southpaw looked confident on park, which was missing in the last few months, that were riddled with controversy.

What Had Gone Wrong With Ishan Kishan?

Ishan Kishan had decided to withdraw from the IND vs SA series midway, citing mental fatigue. Despite being repeatedly advised by skipped Rohit Sharma, BCCI, and Rahul Dravid, Ishan did not feature in the Ranji Trophy. Eventually, he was removed from the BCCI’s central contracts list.

Ishan Kishan Opens Up..

Talking about the entire controversy, Ishan said, “I was practicing. When I took time off from the game, people were talking a lot. Many things came on social media. But you should also realize that many things are not in the hands of the players.”

“The only thing you can do is utilise the time properly. Also the mindset to think about the previous Ishan Kishan, I would never leave a delivery in the first two overs even if they are bowling well. With time I have learnt that even 20 overs is a big game, you can take your time and you can go ahead.

“Even though we have lost matches, we want to work together as a team. Changes have come like even if I am not performing and if I know someone else is not performing, I talk to them. I want to know what they are thinking. So these are things which helped me in the break,” he added.
