Erratic Babar Azam & Co. face full-strength Ireland, this time no room for excuses

New captain Babar Azam is still searching for his first series win in his second tenure. However, he faces a number of issues in his bid.

The Pakistan Cricket Team is ramping up its preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024 with a three-match T20I series against Ireland. Starting on May 10, the series will be held at Dublin’s Clontraf Cricket Club Ground. The series will begin on May 10 with the first match, then on May 12 with the second T20I and May 14 with the third T20I. All of the matches of the IRE vs PAK T20I series will take place at the same venue.

Pakistan in Dire-Straights?

Pakistan will play seven T20Is before travelling to the USA for the T20 World Cup 2024. New captain Babar Azam will look to get his first series win in his second tenure. However, it will not be easy. The Pakistan team has been dealing with a lot of issues within their team.

No coach for series against Ireland

They have appointed a white-ball coach in the form of Gary Kirsten but the South African is busy with IPL commitment and will not be available for the series. So Pakistan will be without a coach in the series.

Pakistan in dismal form

The last T20I series Pakistan played was against New Zealand. It came at a time when most of the first team players of the Black Caps were busy playing IPL. So the Kiwis named a second string side for the series and Pakistan had all their players available. Even then, they failed to defeat New Zealand, drawing 2-2 in the series.

Divisions within the team

There are a lot of undercurrents in the current Pakistan team. Babar Azam and former skipper Shaheen Afridi do not see eye to eye. With two senior players at loggerheads with each other, there’s bound to be two groups in the dressing room. They face a full-strength Ireland side that are determined to do well to make a statement. It will not be easy for Babar Azam and Co, and a defeat would mean Pakistan falling further into the abyss before the T20 World Cup 2024.
