If demoted, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan could refuse central contracts: Report

As per reports, PCB is mulling a demotion in central contracts for Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, that could have long-term effects.

While on one hand, there are reports that the PCB may look to demote Pakistan cricket team‘s top players in the central contracts list after non-performance in the T20 World Cup, a fresh report says, that in that case the latter might refuse the contracts. As per Geo News, there’s a possibility of players showing their revolt, if any changes are made in the contracts.

The report further says that the PCB is waiting for head coach Gary Kirsten’s report, following which a final decision will be made. Also, observations from senior manager Wahab Riaz will also be considered. But this comprehensive procedure has only delayed a potential action.

Why Demote Pakistan Top Players?

One of the reasons for the move could be, to make changes in the central contracts. As reported earlier, skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan could be in the line of fire, and could be pushed down from Category A. All this work is in progress for now, and a new selection committee will finalist the central contracts. Meanwhile, the salary of the players will not change.

Pakistan Cricket Team’s Dismal Performance

The Pakistan cricket team under Babar Azam were knocked out in the first round of the T20 World Cup. They first lost to USA in the super over, and then suffered a crushing defeat to India. Even in their final match against Ireland, they somehow scraped through. They only posted one win, that too against Canada.
