Gautam Gambhir one step closer to becoming India head coach, finishes first round of interview with CAC

As per reports, Gautam Gambhir will attend one more round of interview on Wednesday before the CAC and the BCCI finalize on the position of India head coach

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir appeared for his first round of interview for the position of India cricket team head coach on Monday. The southpaw is the only candidate who has applied for the position. As per reports, Gambhir appeared for the interview with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) and will have another round of interview on Wednesday,

As per PTI reports, Gambhir appeared for the interview virtually from Delhi. CAC chief Ashok Malhotra also reportedly attended the interview via Zoom, owing to his commentary commitments in the Punjab T20 League. Further, the report stated that there was no update on having a New Zealand selector.

News agency IANS stated that Gambhir has put forth certain demands, including separate teams for white and red-ball cricket, which the BCCI has reportedly agreed to. The report further states that the decision on Gambhir is expected to me made soon.

Gautam Gambhir, who is also the mentor for the IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders, brings a wealth of experience and success from his playing and mentoring roles.

His candidacy will be evaluated by the CAC, comprising former cricketers Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshana Naik.

Following the interviews, the CAC will make their recommendations to the BCCI, which will then make the final announcement.
