Food for thought! Why wasn’t PBKS vice-captain Jitesh Sharma named stand-in skipper

PBKS vice-captain Jitesh Sharma, who should have been the stand-in skipper vs RR, was ignored and instead Curran was named skipper

Punjab Kings made all-rounder Sam Curran the side’s stand-in skipper in place of Shikhar Dhawan for the game against RR. What is surprising here is that vice-captain Jitesh Sharma wasn’t the preferred replacement. The keeper-batter has been out of touch in IPL 2024, unable to get going despite featuring in five games so far.

Why is PBKS vice captain Jitesh Sharma not leading the side?

Jitesh Sharma was confirmed as the side’s vice-captain after he attended the IPL Captains Day proceedings in place of Dhawan. While it would been logical for the side to make him the stand-in skipper for the clash against RR, one can only wonder what was the team management’s logic by making Sam Curran skipper instead.

Time running out for Jitesh Sharma?

With the WC squad set to be picked by the last week of April, time is indeed running out of Jitesh Sharma’s hands. The keeper-batter had his best run in IPL 2023, scoring an impressive 309 runs throughout the season. The PBKS star was one of the star finishers for the side in that year.
