DRS, April 11: Speechless Samson, first defeat for RR and Kuldeep Sen’s dream come true with nightmare

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life

What a cracker of a contest it turned out to be between the Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans! From the fireworks with the bat to some magical yet disappointing spells, the game at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur saw it all in yet another nail-biting contest of IPL 2024. If there was a game that could be termed epic, it was the RR vs GT clash where Samson and co were so close and yet so far.

Credit where it is due, the Titans indeed proved themselves as a team that can actually chase down any target, even if adversity stares them in the face. As for RR, a solid performance by the batters was unfortunately clouded by some mistakes from their bowlers, leading to a loss that they never would have thought of. On that note, let’s take a look at the top stories from Wednesday.

Who won yesterday’s IPL match?

Gujarat Titans won the match against Rajasthan Royals by four wickets to hand Samson and co their first defeat of IPL 2024. The heroics with the bat from Samson and Parag was overshadowed by a brilliant display of how to ace a run-chase, courtesy of Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia.

Oh Gill, you beauty!

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill showed the world yet again why he is one of the best batter of the modern era. He became the youngest Indian player to score 3000 IPL runs, surpassing Virat Kohli in the game against RR. Gill set up the stage for Tewatia and Rashid to snatch a victory from RR, right under their noses.

Parag all but sure for T20 World Cup?

Riyan Parag, the young Rajasthan Royals dasher, has finally come of age in IPL 2024. After several seasons of promise but limited output, Parag is having a breakout year, hammering three fifties in just five matches for his team.

Ecstasy and agony in one night!

RR pacer Kuldeep Sen would have never imagined he would experience an extreme high and an equally depressing low on the same night. Coming into the XI in place of Nandre Burger and in the absence of Sandeep Sharma, Sen made quite a good start, getting three wickets with deliveries that read 140+ kmph om the speed gun. The downfall came as quick as the rise as he faltered in the penultimate over of the match by conceding extras, a turning point that saw GT snatch the game away from the Royals.

A Tewatia-Rashid show in Jaipur

Needing 124 runs in the last 10 overs, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan provided the final flourish. Rashid scored 11-ball 24 while Tewatia smashed 11-ball 22.

Samson for T20 WC? Why not?

Sanju Samson never ceases to amaze all with his consistent form in IPL 2024. The Kerala batter played a crucial role in helping his team amass a huge total. He scored 68 runs from 38 deliveries, a sign that is too good for the Indian selectors to ignore ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. Well, why will one have to complain after seeing Samson’s prowess with the bat consistently in five games now?

Where next for Rohit Sharma?

Former Chennai Super Kings star Ambati Rayudu opines Rohit Sharma will move on from Mumbai Indians to a franchise that may treat him better. His remarks come in the backdrop of the Hitman being replaced with Hardik Pandya as the MI skipper. Rayudu believes all IPL teams would love to have Rohit as the captain.
